The purpose of this project was to manipulate a static screen print. I was intrigued by the idea of using light to illuminate a print. I started off by hand lettering the word “illuminate” and scanning it into a computer. I then reversed the scan so when I burned the screen the ink surrounds the word “illuminate.” I did multiple swipes of black ink on a piece of acrylic to ensure that light would only pass through the word. I then purchased a shadow-box frame and surrounded the inside with a strip of LED lights. When the unit is plugged in the color and brightness of the lights is controlled with a remote, creating a wide range of options to choose from.
